WATERING HOLE

WATERING HOLE

N. G. “Nick” Franelich was born in 1866 and died in 1941. Beginning in 1897, he operated a retail grocery and liquor outlet at Beauregard and St. Joseph streets in Mobile, Ala., that Bob Peck of the Historical Mobile Preservation Society says was probably at the northwest intersection of the two streets. The “terminal” in the saloon’s name was in reference to the Mobile and Ohio – later Gulf, Mobile and Ohio – Railroad terminal, which was completed in 1907 and was located near the saloon, Peck says.
