FLORA-BAMA LOUNGE AND PACKAGE

FLORA-BAMA LOUNGE AND PACKAGE

EUGENIA UHL PHOTOGRAPH

Although it seems like it has been here for generations, it actually opened in 1964, and although its name indicates that the business straddles the line that divides two states, it actually is fully in Florida. But everything else about the Flora-Bama Lounge and Package is very real.

This true Southern beach roadhouse is where Florida meets Alabama, with direct feet-in-the-white-sugar-sand access to the Gulf of Mexico. A lively and legendary destination for fun and friendship, the Flora-Bama prides itself on its unkempt appearance and its never-ending, always-changing lineup of music and happenings, some scheduled, others not. If you’ve never experienced the joys of competitive mullet-tossing across a state line, then you have not yet lived life to its fullest, nor do you have the stories to prove you know where the fun really is.

Flora-Bama Lounge and Package, 17401 Perdido Key Drive, Pensacola, Fla., (850) 492-0611 or (251) 980-5118

Pat!!! It's Dween! I'm still here in Minnesota, go figure after all these years. But I'm thinking of you and the once beautiful Pensacola Beaches that are now being covered with the terrible oil.
I want to tell you how my heart is breaking because of what is happening to the waters and animals and shores. I want to tell you this because I will aways keep dear in heart my days and times I spent in Florida and my trips up to Pensacola to visit Hilde and you.
I will keep you all in my prayers and my heart. Please know that although I am so far away from your beautiful state I am there in my heart always. For it is true as they say, (and you know it too that is way you stayed all these years) when you go down to Florida "you get the sand in your shoes". The sand will always be in my shoes and I will always remember my happy times and the fun I had with you and Hilde down there.

Peace and love,
Lydwine (Dween)
p.s. I would love to hear back from you to let me know how you are doing as well as your beloved Florabama!
